Wake-on function / recharging at a DC charging station
The wake-on function ensures that the battery is automatically recharged as soon as it falls below a predefined charge level. Even with a DC charger.
Innovation report / Description of the function
As Eponet, a Swiss developer of a leading e-mobility platform, we are committed to innovative charging solutions in the field of electric mobility. The continuous availability of electric trucks or buses is essential for logistics companies. Especially in winter, the state of charge (SoC) can drop when vehicles are parked for long periods of time. The wake-on function ensures that the battery is automatically recharged as soon as it falls below a predefined charge level.
In a comprehensive 64-hour test from 31 January to 3 February, we successfully tested the wake-on function together with our partners Gebr. Knechtli AG, the Swiss Autel distributor, and a Renault Truck E-Tech from Thomann Nutzfahrzeuge. A Renault Truck E-Tech, an Autel MaxiCharger DC Fast 120, our Eponet GLM3 load management system and our billing platform were used, and the test took place at the fast-charging park at Electrosuisse in
Fehraltdorf.
During the test, the battery was continuously maintained at 100%. Charging breaks were automatically terminated as soon as recharging was necessary. This makes it possible to keep vehicles ready for use at all times, including energy-efficient preheating of the cab and batteries via mains power. The technical requirements for Wake-on are support from the vehicle, charging station, load management and billing platform. Our Eponet GLM3 load and energy management system, Autel's smart charging technology and the Renault Truck E-Tech's battery management system (BMS) ensured that everything ran smoothly.
Important:
Not every vehicle and DC charging station supports this function. If you want this function, check whether it is supported before purchasing the hardware (truck, bus or charging station).
Wake-on function for electric trucks: Successful test run with Renault, Autel and Eponet
This successful test shows that Eponet, as a platform operator, sets the highest standards and offers practical solutions. Our platform enables efficient charging, transparent billing and maximum vehicle availability – crucial for everyday logistics operations.
Test components:
✓ Renault Trucks e-Tech from Thomann Nutzfahrzeuge AG
✓ Autel MaxiCharger DC Fast 60-240 kW from Gebr. Knechtli AG
✓ Billing platform from Eponet AG
✓ Load management from Eponet AG
✓ Test location DC charging park at Electrosuisse in Fehraltdorf
During the test, the wake-on function of a vehicle and the charging station was monitored over a long period of time. Although the energy loss of the SoC was low, the battery was recharged to 100% several times. Charging was initially paused at 14:00 at 100%; by this point, 135.3 kW had been charged. Over the following 64 hours, the vehicle restarted the charging process several times on its own. When the vehicle was picked up on Monday at 4:57 a.m. with 100%
SoC, the total consumption was 136.4 kW, which shows that the charging session remained active for over 60 hours.
This test also shows that functions such as recharging (also) via solar power, as well as the operational reliability of your e-fleet, are guaranteed via our platform.
